Talcum powder lawsuits may very well be the largest mass tort effecting woman to date. It will easily match or surpass the horrors of the vaginal mesh and the multitudes of the Dow Corning Breast Implant class action or years ago. Talcum powder has been around for centuries and woman have used it to dry off every single day of their lives. They never knew that each dusting brought them closer to a ovarian cancer diagnosis.

Here Are The Talcum Powder Lawsuit Facts

Two Talcum powder lawsuit  trials in St. Louis, Missouri resulted in multi-million dollar jury verdicts against giant Johnson & Johnson. The jury found that Johnson & Johnson was aware that its Baby Powder and Shower To Shower has been linked to  ovarian cancer for years. . They  failed to warn  of the dangers of Talc bases products used for personal hygiene. The two products involved in the two trials were Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower.

$127 Million in Jury Verdicts Against Johnson & Johnson

The first trial resulted in a $72 million jury verdict in favor of an Alabama woman who died of ovarian cancer at age 62. She used the products for  more than thirty five years for feminine hygiene. The second trial resulted in a $55 million jury verdict in favor of a 62 year old South Dakota woman who developed ovarian cancer.

What is Talc Used In Talcum Powder?

Talc is a mineral mined from the earth that is made up mainly of the elements magnesium, silicon, and oxygen.  As a powder, Talc absorbs moisture well and helps cut down on friction, making it useful for keeping dry.

Talc and  Ovarian Cancer

As far back as  1971  studies have linked the long-term use of talc-based products for feminine hygiene  to ovarian cancer. During the two recent St. Louis trials details of a number of these studies were presented to the jury, along with several internal Johnson & Johnson documents that demonstrated Johnson & Johnson’s knew of the talc and ovarian cancer link and never warned of the potential dangers. It was  established that by at least 1982, Johnson & Johnson was aware of  a 1971 study linking talc and ovarian cancer were related.

Talc Particles Become Embedded In Tissue Causing  Cancer

The 1971  study reported  that  talc particles were found  deeply embedded within the biopsied  ovarian cancer tissues . In both of the recent St. Louis trials, talc was also found deeply embedded in the  ovarian  tissues. In a letter it was stated  “several investigators have independently reported talc particles in ovarian tissue.” This same consultant further noted “a ‘real’ statistically significant association [between talc and ovarian cancer] has been established independently by several investigators.”

They Lied To All Of Us By Withholding Important Information

In a September 1997 letter from a Johnson & Johnson consultant to the company’s toxicology department manager confirms information was withheld.  The consultant refuted Johnson & Johnson’s claim that the talc in its talcum powder was so harmless that exposure to it at levels thousands of times higher than lifetime consumer exposure presented no significant risk, calling this claim “outright false.”

Talc-Based Products  Pushed To  Black And Hispanic Women

In 1992, Johnson & Johnson determined that it needed to address declining sales of its Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower products.  To increase the  sales of Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower, Johnson & Johnson began to focus marketing of these products to Black women and Hispanic women. They never  warned consumers of the dangerous link between the long-term  use of talc-based products and ovarian cancer.

The Mining Company Knew

The talc supplier did not sell to consumers, but sold only to companies like Johnson & Johnson. In mining the talc, the supplier’s employees wore protected gear and marked the mined talc for shipping with hazardous warning labels. Upon receipt of the mined talc, Johnson & Johnson removed the hazardous warning labels and women like you were left vulnerable to danger.

Are You Going To Let Them Get Away With It?

Johnson & Johnson is well aware of its responsibility to provide warnings on its products for uses that might cause harm to you. J & J does  warn against inhaling the powder or getting it in one’s eyes. Johnson & Johnson still does not  warn of the danger and  link to ovarian cancer id used to “dry off.” Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower products are dangerous and they knew it.  Johnson & Johnson continues to insist that its talc-based Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower products are safe for long-term genital use and have  no risk of ovarian cancer.

They Ignore The Facts and Deny The Potential Risk

Johnson & Johnson has not recalled its talc-based Baby Powder or Shower-to-Shower products from store shelves or  added a warning label on the containers. If you or a loved one has gotten ovarian cancer ffom daily use of Talcum Powder on private areas we need to speak to you.
